Our Trips to Skara Brae |
|
Skara Brae is a Stone Age village on the West Coast of Orkney. It dates back about 5,000 years and is one of the most famous Neolithic sites in Northern Europe. The site was uncovered during a violent storm in 1850 which blew all the sand away that it had been buried under revealing a wonderful well preserved stone village. the P3's here at St Andrews do a project on Stone Age life and the pupils get to go and visit Skara Brae to learn more about how our ancestors lived 5,000 years ago. Whatever the weather, the pupils always have a fantastic day, always enjoying the guided tour and especially their very own Skara Brae village building competition down on the beach after lunch. We are always very grateful too for all the parent helpers who come along on our trips to help out. Without them it would be very difficult to take the pupils out anywhere. |

We looked at all kinds of tools that the people of Skara Brae had made out of whale bone and clay. They were very interesting. |
