Leanne
Smith from Stromness Academy came into school today
to talk to the P6's about France as part of their
class topic this term on Europe. Leanne lived in Pau,
in South West France for 9 months teaching the French
pupils English. Today she came to share her experiences
with us and to teach us what a French pupil may eat
for breakfast and tell us what a typical day at school
would be like for a French pupil. Everyone got to
try crossiants, chocolate bread and hot chocolate.
Needless to say not a crumb was left, not even on
Mr Gallacher's plate. A big Thank You to Leanne and
also to the kitchen staff for preparing all the food.

Eco
Committee
A
lot more members have joined the Eco Commitee this
term. Members from the Orkney Islands Council-councillors
Jim Foubister and Andrew Drever have also joined.
The
classes at St Andrews are now competing against each
other for the Funky Chicken award. Pupils are busy
turning off lights, laptops and data projectors (if
the teachers aren't using them that is!)
Ideas
are also still needed for the Wibbly Wobbly Wall!
There are two sections of the wall still to be completed
so pupils are being asked for any ideas that they
may have.
And..........last
but not least
We
are proud to say that St Andrews has received the
Silver Award and are now working towards the Green
Flag. Hopefully with a little extra hard work at keeping
our school 'green' we should gain the Green Flag in
the future.

Children
in Need
Well
done to the pupils of St Andrews as they have just
raised a total of £444 for Children in Need!
The
Primary 4/3 class held a day of fun and games for
the whole school and everyone came to school in fancy
dress. During lunchtime the P5/4's held a karaoke
competition. There was a sale's table at break time
selling everything from second hand toys to fudge
and handmade cards and Jess Butler came into school
to paint the children's faces. Having fun while raising
money!! What a brilliant idea! Well done to everyone
who made the day a fantastic sucess!

Handwashing
with the P2/1's

The
P2/1's rcently learnt all about the importance ofwashing
their hands. The School Nurse Mrs Vicky Anderson came
into our school and taught the pupils how to wash
their hands throughly in order to prevent germs and
other nasties from making us poorly. The pupils also
got to study their hands in more detail under a special
light box which can detect any dirt left behind after
washing. The pupils all listened really well and has
a result there has been a big improvement in keeping
the germs and bugs at bay at St Andrews School!

Drumming
with the Kakatsitsi drummers from Ghana

We
were all treated to a wonderful concert by the Kakatsitsi
drummers recently. Pupils, staff and parents were
invited to listen to their unique style of drumming
and dancing. Afterwards they very kindly ran workshops
for the pupils and staff and everyone agreed what
an enjoyable experience it had been!

Cool
Seas Visit
Ever
had a whale in your school? Or a dolphin or amazingly
enough a great white shark?? Well we did last week!
And better still they were all life size! Thankfully
though they were made out of inflatable plastic and
none of the pupils came to any harm!

It
was really interesting to see the size and scale of
the animals and learn more about them! The pupils
all discovered that a coconut is infact more dangerous
than a great white shark and they also learnt about
how throwing away rubbish can harm our beautiful sea
creatures.

Here
Andy shows us how tall a dolphin is!
