MATTERS ARISING
Teacher Representative
Thelma Holt has been placed into the post of Acting Head Teacher so she has been transferred from Teacher Rep to this post. Margaret Kirkness has kindly agreed to take the place of Thelma as a teacher representative on the Parent Council.
Parent forum
It was felt that the Parent Council should have been involved more with the school and parent forum regarding the composite classes.
Parent Council Information
It was felt that the Parent Council should be promoted more to enable the general public to know who is on the Council and to who they can contact regarding any issues for information and reassurance.
It was suggested that a newsletter was put home to all parents to let them know who was on the Council
A presentation is going to be made up to display in the foyer of the school with the photos of all the Parent Council members with e-mail addresses and phone numbers of those who are willing to display their private numbers for contacting. Thelma is going to ask Amanda if she would be willing to take photos and down load them.
Bank Account
Stacey suggested that the bank account was opened as soon as possible as there is money waiting to be deposited into the Parent Council account. It was agreed that an account was opened in the Bank of Scotland. The 3 signatories are to be: Peter, Stacey & Louise, as stated in the constitution and any 2 of the 3 would be able to sign cheques.
Website
The 2 websites were discussed and it was felt that it would be better to keep the correspondence regarding the Parent Council onto the school website as this is easily accessible and more user friendly. Peter has offered to help Amanda with setting up a Parent Council link onto the school website. Thelma is going to ask IT if it was possible to give Peter access to do this.
Date of the AGM
Tbc at the next meeting.
Constitution
It was agreed that it was now ready to pass the constitution to legal to have it passed. Peter is to send it to Stacey via e-mail so that she can format the document.
CORRESPONDENCE
‘Have Sum Fun'
The school has received some ‘Have Sum Fun' booklets, using games to promote and encourage maths with children 3 - 8 years. It was suggested that we use this resource at the parent's night in November to help promote the Parent Council and to also promote everyday tasks that can help children extend their math's skills.
A meeting is set for the night of Monday 6 th October to discuss who will be doing what on the night.
School Calendar 2009/2010 & 2010/211
Thelma has been forwarded the proposed dates for the next two years and passed them around to see if anybody had any preferences towards them. They are to be put onto the website and displayed in the foyer of the school to enable parents to report feedback on them to Karen Walters before 31 st October 08 if they wish to.

Dr Barnardo's
Dr Barnardo's workers came to visit the school and gave each class a plastic money-box house
for any money found or loose change to be placed in the boxes for Dr. Barnardo's. They left a big bear to be raffled at the Christmas Concert and the proceeds from this would go to Dr Barnardo's.
The Igubi Tribe
The Igubi Tribe had been to visit the school and it had been a lovely day. They entertained the children for a donation to help raise money to buy their land back in the Kalahari Desert .
School Heating
Andrew was asked if anything had been discussed about a possible wind turbine being put at the school. The school is considering turning the school heating system into an ecological friendly system, under ground heat source and a wind turbine have been considered as options for this.
By having the heating system made ecologically it would go towards gaining a ‘Green Flag Award' for the school. This would update the Eco Schools Bronze Award which was presented to the school on 4 th March 2008 .
Andrew is going to speak to Jim Foubister about this and get back to the Parent Council.
Fiddle Lessons
It has been addressed that parents did not know yet whether their child would be able to receive fiddle lessons at the school from Douglas Montgomery yet. Thelma is going to speak to Douglas to see if Douglas has any available spaces and if he does, to see if the parents / children could be told asap if they are able to receive lessons at the school.
